Senior Azure Platform Engineer

- At UNION, you will join a newly established team working on a greenfield initiative to build a modern, enterprise-scale AI & Data Platform.
- The team is building a centralized Data Lakehouse (DLH) platform, providing a scalable and secure foundation for enterprise data management, analytics, and AI/ML workloads.
- Beyond developing the underlying cloud infrastructure and platform capabilities, the team focuses on enabling AI and machine learning solutions across business processes, working in close collaboration with business stakeholders to deliver tangible business value.
- As a Senior Azure Platform Engineer, you will play a key role in designing, developing and maintaining the Azure infrastructure and platform services, ensuring a secure, scalable and reliable cloud environment.
- In this role, you will combine cloud platform engineering, infrastructure automation and governance with Kubernetes platform operations. You will develop reusable infrastructure components, implement Azure Landing Zones and enable engineering teams to efficiently deploy and operate workloads across cloud and on-premises environments.
- Design, build and maintain enterprise Azure cloud infrastructure and platform services.
- Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code solutions using Terraform.
- Design, implement and maintain Azure Landing Zones, governance policies and platform standards.
- Build and manage Azure networking, identity, security and access management solutions.
- Support and optimize on-premises Kubernetes platforms and containerized workloads.
- Develop reusable infrastructure modules and automate platform provisioning and configuration.
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure and platform deployments.
- Implement monitoring, logging and alerting solutions to ensure platform reliability and performance.
- Troubleshoot complex infrastructure and platform issues and optimize security, availability and cost efficiency.
- Collaborate with development, security and architecture teams to support platform modernization and continuous improvement.
- 5+ years of experience in Cloud Infrastructure Engineering, Platform Engineering, DevOps or a related field.
- 3+ years of hands-on experience designing, implementing and operating enterprise-scale Microsoft Azure environments.
- Strong knowledge of core Azure infrastructure services, including Virtual Networks, Storage Accounts, Key Vault, Resource Groups and Azure networking components.
- Proven hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code using Terraform.
- Experience designing and implementing Azure Landing Zones, Azure Policy and cloud governance solutions.
- Strong understanding of cloud networking, identity and access management, security and governance principles.
- Hands-on experience with Kubernetes administration and containerized workloads, preferably but not necessarily in on-premises environments.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and version control systems such as Azure DevOps, Gitlab, Github.
- Experience with infrastructure automation and scripting using PowerShell, Python or Azure CLI.
- Experience with cloud monitoring, logging and troubleshooting.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and take ownership.
- Excellent professional communication skills in English.
- Experience with enterprise-scale Azure architecture and multi-subscription management.
- Experience with GitOps practices and tools such as ArgoCD or Flux.
- Experience with Kubernetes networking, storage, security and cluster lifecycle management.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Entra ID, Microsoft Defender for Cloud and Azure security best practices.
- Experience with hybrid cloud environments and connectivity solutions, including VPN, ExpressRoute and Private Endpoints.
- Experience with platform engineering concepts, self-service infrastructure and reusable Terraform modules.
- Experience with Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Prometheus or Grafana.
- Knowledge of FinOps practices and cloud cost optimization.
- Experience with other cloud platforms such as AWS or GCP.
- Relevant Microsoft Azure or Kubernetes certifications.
